about
me
Originally from Tennessee, John Gattis is a St. Petersburg–based horn player with a focus on contemporary music. He has premiered over 150 new works and performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Library of Congress, David Geffen Hall, and as a soloist for the opening of The Met Breuer in New York City. His work spans orchestral, chamber, and commercial settings, with performances alongside the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), the West Point Band, and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular Orchestra. He has commissioned and collaborated with composers throughout his career, with a particular interest in expanding the horn's presence in new music.
John is a founding member of both the LGBTQuintet and the Kylwyria Trio, ensembles dedicated to new and adventurous chamber music. Through J Gattis Consulting, he works with arts organizations on projects interesting enough to sustain his limited attention and functional enough to survive reality. He tries his best.
